I found this in a thrift shore today. I've none to compare it to. My question is of it's newness. Does it look like a reproduction or something more current for a souvenier?
The base to my mind looks old. But maybe it's made to look old and isnt.
The figures around the body look like peasants with different jobs. I thought it was interesting.
I think it's a pitcher but maybe it's a stein and is supposed to have a pewter lid?
What say the experts? **** If old what keywords would i use to narrow my search?

Graniteware is metal, this looks like pottery of some sort. Looks a bit like beer stein, the style that is.

It’s very interesting, and I can see why you may have doubts whether it’s new or not! It looks like it should be old, and it may be, but the quality doesn’t look very good. I really don’t know anything about this sort of pottery so not much help. I also wondered about the 2L mark. Did old jugs/ steins get marked with litres?

Adele, thank you for just taking the time to reply. Yes i did find a stoneware salt glazed blue & grey pitcher that had the " 2 L " on the left side of the handle at the top. There was a line under it exactly like mine. This is probably German made. That's a far as i got in searching.

I still wish i know what to call those faces in circles that surround the top. I've seen those before but i can't recall a name to search for. Darn!

fortapache, You're right of course. I don't know why i input Granitware, i know better. It very well might be a stein. it's a 2 liter one if so.

Again, I still wish i know what to call those faces in circles that surround the top. I know there's a special name for them. it's at the tip of my tongue. and not gargoyles but something similar.
