A large rare Kralik Carpé Cameo vase with a grapevine pattern acquired recently from the US for a stupid price. I'm not sure if all other collectors where sleeping when I grabbed this as I had zero competition and got it for its starting price of $90! Which I'm pretty sure is my bargain buy of 2018! It's a thick and deeply layered vase and there is evidence, seen from the base, of aventurine in the green. It's actually very difficult to see, but obvious when moved against a direct light source.
    Stands at 12" (30cm).
I could cover the technique, but I think Jericho does a perfectly good job here:

I'm just a bargain blood hound Lesley...
I love sniffing these things out; and although the chase can sometimes be more exciting than the actual piece once I actually get my paws on it, this one does not disappoint one bit!

Great piece. So happy it arrived safely! I got two pieces of shattered glass in the mail today. Always nervous when buying glass through the mail.

Thanks Kevin....well it was in a box with 9 other pieces so there was some risk, but my partner in Glass on the other side of the pond packed them all like a pro and all arrived safely..... as expected... ; ) tks J.

I'm not sure that the U.S. bidders are sleeping. I think they are running from forest fires and rebuilding after hurricanes, floods and tornadoes.
Fantastic vase and it's a good thing it fell into the hands of someone who really knows and appreciates it's value. Congratulations and thank you for sharing it's beauty.

      Thanks for your comment Tex!

Haha, true that Tex.... these pieces (who can say) why they aren’t more appreciated they have at least 4 layers of glass. they have a thick base color with layers of floating glass powders then the whole surface is covered in glass powders that are later stenciled with the design and acid-treated to reveal the pattern. Lotta work! The piece has so much texture and depth especially when lit by a pro like Phil... maybe this explanation will increase awareness of these pieces as more bidding will make the prices rise- (oh wait that would hurt us collectors)
