We bought this very unique carnival wheel a couple weeks ago to add to our collection and I am desperately trying to get it into working order. Really hoping someone out there can tell me how to wire so the lights "articulate' when wheel is spun. Axle/bolt means nothing! It's obviously a replacement and very amateurish at that. Will be much more correct by the time I get done. I only have until Christmas so any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! What do I need to do here????

What an *interesting* item?!! I would have to guess that more than its original 'axle' shaft is missing from it...there must have been some sort of 'segmented armature/contact plate' there too, its segments attached to the individual socket feed wires near the center which now look to have been cut away from whatever it was. Presuming the disc in the center is actually made of metal, that would have been the 'return' for all of them. Looks like the smaller wire 'ring' serves as a feed for the sockets on the edge of the wheel, it would have also had some means of getting electricity to it. I could imagine some sort of arrangement with sprung contact fingers which would ride against both the 'return disc' and (missing) armature, but it would be difficult to know exactly how it was done originally...

To sum up what AnythingObscure is saying, Some bastard cut the wires and stole the armature.(Avec slip-ring). Probably safer to use the center plate, with an insulated bearing surface. Since you don't need the coils in a fan/anything motor, just use the commutator ring for contact to the many wire. Let's see: brushes, soldering, mounts, insulation etc., --, I'll do it for $1,200 & you pay air fare & other expenses. LOL !! Tomorrow is Sunday and I'm eye-balling the freezer with what lies within. By 3:PM tomorrow, my rates will probably be a dollar, 2 - 98. LOL !! Best to Michelle. May be seeing you soon. (Court)

Yes, some puckering sphincter chopped the wires and removed key piece!
AnythingObscure and Lucas...can you sketch your thoughts up for me? tragedy.narrowly.avoided @ gmail.com. Thanks guys!!! Beer on me Lucas. Marikka's remodelled and open!

Ken, no problem Mon ! We will need something simple & cheap to make contact like carbon brushes on an elec. Motor. I'll put some of our unemployed sailors, known to locals as "unemployables", to work on it. Did I tell you about the bottle opener we invented, that only had 7 moving parts ?Hey, I want a T-shirt from Marikka's. Whacky Jacky got the only one they had when we were there. Fat Tony's wants a KY motorcycle plate/tag to hang up, so save 1.

HI akrodog! (Ken?) I'll try to 'scratch up' a thought or two shortly, and will send along to your email if I come up with anything that actually might be useful to 'ya...? <lol> Meanwhiles, is there anything interesting underneath the center cap on the *front* of the wheel? (presuming it comes off somehow, as somebody had to get that errant bolt/axle in there?) Also, just outta curiosity, do you know anything about whatever "RUDOLPHS CANDY" is/was?? All the best, Tim

AnythingObscure, Lucas must've had an "old timers" event! I'm Nick! Don't think there is anything under the hub but haven't checked it out yet. Don't really want to start disassembly until I have some sort of plan. Contacted the Electrical Engineering dept. of our local university(UK) and even the head of the dept. couldn't help me other than referring me to a student organization! Call me crazy, but would think the head of an electrical engineering dept of a major university should be able to sort this out!
