Still rooting around looking for jewelry and finding some interesting things. This silver chain was given to me by a lady who I was "close and continuous" with when I was stationed in northern Thailand in the early 1970s. I was a member of the military intelligence community holding a top secret security clearance so any close or exclusive relationships with non-military personnel were prohibited. Oh well. The necklace is silver, 28" long and made of two link sections that are joined together. Probably made by a local village craftsman and a bit crude. No markings. No clasp, the necklace is joined together by a single piece of silver. Pretty heavy for its size. I've never had to polish it. It just stays shiny. Marking it a mystery since the maker is unknown.
If it stays shiny it's more than likely not silver. Even fine silver will tarnish over time.
Thanks, lugnuts. Guess I'll take it to a jeweler and have it tested.
Thanks for loving my mystery metal necklace! SE Asians are pretty serious about their jewelry, so it will be interesting to see what it is made out of.
