Hello CW friends! It's been awhile, and I missed being here. I just wanted to share one of our summer projects. Last fall we picked up this cute little tractor at a junk yard for $50. The owner typically refuses to sell anything, but he must have been in a good mood that day, and this little guy was saved from a crusher. It's a win-win for all if you ask me. For one, it was a great father-son project, it also makes me happy when a piece of history is saved, but most importantly, I now get a little help with my garden chores!
The tractor still needs a paint job (i'm not letting this go!), but otherwise it's in a good working condition.
    Thank you for stopping by!

Thomas, happy to see you! Thank you for stopping by and providing some more insight on the tractor, much appreciated. That, indeed, is a true statement, it runs like a champ! =)

I absolutely love it. I have a JD D-105 automatic that I use as my helper. At 70 and poor health I count on the Deere to help me out.

Looks like you did a fine job on an old basket case. That young fellow certainly looks like he is the new owner. My neighbor's kid enjoys having a turn driving mine.

fhrjr2-thank you for such a nice and positive comment, I really appreciate it! Yes, my 8yo son is its new owner, and the only way I can get any help around is if the tractor is involved =) I wish you all the best and hope you feel better soon!

Great vintage Deere tractor, they sure are built to last! Your son looks like he is enjoying himself riding around on it plus the added bonus of helping with the lawn, & like that wagon attachment

Hi Jenni, great to see you stop by, and thank you for a lovely comment! =) The trailer actually came first, our neighbor dumped it during the last spring clean up- so, a trailer with a second life, too, and a good match for the tractor! Hope the weather has been little better by you this season, we are not doing so great in Hudson Valley here. A repeat of Hurricane Irene scenario has been on the back of people's minds. Crossing fingers for an uneventful autumn.

I grew up on a large farm in WI. Our fleet of tractors were mostly John Deere. Nice little garden tractor you have there.

Buckethead, thank you for your nice comment and stopping by, always a pleasure to see you!

Ms.CrystalShip-thank you kindly for your appreciation and comment. I can't agree more. It's sad that everything has become so disposable. Btw, I used the "crusher" figuratively, I don't really know what they do with metal junk, i suppose, they part it out and scrap the metal. Something to look up and educate myself.

Fortapache, Malkey, iggy, vetra- thank you for stopping by and your loves.

You are very welcome AnnaB :)
BTW....the round fender design, like yours, was made from 1963-1967. The square fender design was from 1968-1974. Your '65 has the 8 HP Kohler 305 cc 1 cylinder engine. The Kohler that is in your '65 tractor was made in my home state of Wisconsin (very well made).

Thank you, Buckethead, i didn't know these details, it's very interesting information and makes it more special! I remember that you like fixing things up, too, so I thought I'd share what was done on this tractor. My husband said he put in a new carburetor, re-built exhaust valves, put in a new muffler (the old one disintegrated when the tractor was started), new tubes for the wheels, custom fly wheel, replaced crank shaft seal, custom governor, custom air cleaner, restored headlights, custom grill, new battery, rebuilt choke and throttle cables, changed differential fluid, adjusted variable transmission lever and fixed parking break. Took about two months.

Nice! As you and your husband probably know, a person gets a great sense of accomplishment when finishing a project like this. Kudos to you and your husband :)

That is indeed a primary reason why we do it =) Thanks again for your kind words!
