Found this unknown item buried in my mother in-laws backyard. House was built in 1956. Dont know material, cast iron maybe. Has some sort of bar going across inside it. Anybody ever seen one?

Approx. dia. of a 6pdr. cannon ball, but don't think so with that projecting flange.
I doubt this is a cannonball or even military - more likely a fence or gate post finial.
I was thinking a stove finial in that it is cast.
