Does anyone know anything about these striking orange glass carafes I found in our local market? The orange colour is so unusual. I’ve seen lots of similar style carafes I believe to be Italian. They appear to be blown glass and they both have pontil marks on base. The prints (?) on the front do not appear to have any makers marks or anything.
Really pretty color. Were these bought as new, or as used? What are the dimensions?
Hi there. Thank you for your message. They are used, bought from Hitchin flea market in Herts UK from a couple who buy vintage homewares from auction, do estate clearances and sell single objects for friends. They are slightly different sizes, 8” x 3.25” and 7.5” x 2.75”. I’ve seen similar coloured glass online described as tangerine glass, a maker called Blenko seems to have made much. These don’t seem to have much in the way of yellow glass to them, except for those prunts on the front. I was just so taken by the amazing colour. The fact that I can’t readily identify them is just making me more curious and determined to solve the mystery. Maybe I will invest in a good 20th century glass book, I’m assuming they are mid century due to their style, perhaps I’m wrong. Ali :)
I don't think that I have ever seen a Blenko piece with a ground pontil.
