Not sure if this is a blacksmith tool or farm implement. Any help would be appreciated. It bears the makers mark of John Murphy, 81 Broad St who I was able to find in an 1876 NYC directory. It named him as a smith. Not sure if he used it or just made it. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Possibly a kitchen tool for handling chicken, turkey, or roast

I doubt it was for food. The metal is way to thick and rough (not polished to food grade). The handles/grips are also very heavy metal. I sooner think it was used to get items from a very hot place without getting burned.
