    Does anyone know what tool this is? It looks like the top flap part might have been added on. The botton half still moves (rotates), I suspect the top part used to move also. It's a heavy tool. Thanks all!

      I've seen these before that have lead (the metal) "faces" that fit in (whatever you call what lead faces fit into?). This appears to tighten from the handle side. Lead faced hammers are used when you need to apply a good blow, but don't want to hurt what you hit. If you understand that, please explain it to me.

      Might also hold a roll of rawhide to avoid leaving a mark when used as a hammer.

      Thank you all so much. Now it makes sense. Before going back to school, my ex-husband was a bricklayer and did furnace relines at Armco Steel. The information is much appreciated!!!
