This Turkish carved meerschaum pipe is 8" long x 3.5" high. I bought this pipe new, "in the white", so any coloring it has came from my smoking of it. It is a high quality, hand carved from a single block of meerschaum, unfortunately not signed, but made by an experienced carver.
I wanted a big pipe for more extended smoking sessions, so found this one. I was spoiled by my older family heirloom pipes, so put a bit of effort into finding a new made meerschaum pipe that had some nice carving, but didn't cost an arm and a leg. I always felt like Sherlock Holmes when smoking this big boy, but it is a great smoker and very comfortable to hold. You can actually rest your hand on your chest while you smoke this pipe, if you recline a bit. I stopped smoking almost 20 years ago, but keep my pipes as art objects.
I don't recall who made this one, but it came from Turkey. Not calling it a mystery even though it is not marked and I don't know who the maker was.
Thats a nice pipe...!
Thanks for your comments MyCountry and Thomas! While digging around for my other pipes, I found several bags of tobacco that I have had stored away for 10 or 15 years. I only bought loose, organic tobaccos and not sure what it all is as I didn't mark it. If I can find my small pipe, I'll test the theory that tobacco gets better with age. I all appears to be moist and springy.
Thanks for loving my sultan pipe!
