wire needle with hole?????

jamesclark's items17 of 17old tool chest? can anybody tell me anything about it?mason jar, no ball name on it, has standard embossed on it with mason in a box.

    what is it? about 12 " long, 1/4 " wide on shank. wood handle held in by pin. some one told me it was a wire needle for splicing wire rope???

      I used to be a millwright and worked with wire rope a bit. This seems a little delicate for that. I think just a big needle for when you need one.

      This is a chef's trussing needle for sewing rolled-up pieces of meat, etc. prior to baking or grilling.
