Unusual Brass Lined Covered Jar ( Tibetan ?)

I am searching for information on this jar. I would like to know if anyone can tell me origin, date, what it would have been used for and what the orange/red body is? Someone told me it could be Tibetan but I am not sure of that. It measures 7 " to the top of the knob.
