    Was told it is Japanese. I think it is a set of four cups and saucers. Only identifying mark is the characters written in gold on the bottom. Not even sure which way they are supposed to be orientated.

      You have the marks correctly oriented.
      Your set is Satsuma, and I haven't found the kiln but it may be from Kyoto.
      This would likely date early 20thC.
