Probably meant to be ornamental, the creator of this small set succeeded. I picked these from a blanket full of junk the other day - they were shining like diamonds in a cow patty. They are small but have a lot happening. They have a gaudy array of small cane murrines, and if that weren't enough, the pieces are thinly cased on the exterior with a clear glass sprinkled with gold (looking?) dust. The clear handles are also peppered with gold. The little urn has a generic Murano label affixed.

The pitcher stands about 3" (7.5 cm) and the handled urn stands about 2 5/8" (6.5 cm) tall. The quality seems a cut above much of the usual tourist millefiori.

I would not call them gaudy exactly. They make a lot of glass paperweights in this pattern and beautiful lamp shades. They are called Millefiori pattern. These are newer possibly mid to later 60's. The ones from the 40's to early 60's in a small lamp are just exquisite. I have 5 of the lamps.

A lot of the Murano Millefiori lamps and lampshades go for fairly big money.

Thank you Phil and Mrstyndall - I thought they were pretty nice as well. I use the term "gaudy" lovingly. If you have seen my other posts you can probably tell, I like gaudy.

Quality for sure Harry - such nicely packed canes.
      What is life without colour?
