I got these chairs from someone who was getting rid of them. I just moved and have very little furniture of my own, so I was glad to find them. They are heavy oak, very sturdy chairs, yet surprisingly comfortable. I'm just going to add a tush cushion and put them in my living room. Does anyone reckon they were made in November of '38, per the stamp on the bottom? What about the Douglas bit? I'd enjoy learning more about them, I think they are really well made. Thanks for looking!
Very nice and dated also ! These are called a captain's chair. Douglas is either the mfg name or the pattern name. A lot of this style chair was used in the 1970's for bars where they were predominent.
Yes, I have two and both have those holes. I thought they may have had cusions attached there at some point. I can't think of what else they might have been used for.
