This attractive jar has a lid specially designed to be open with a table knife. The lid has a raised section where the blade of a table knife fits thus the jar easily pops open. I am thinking it worked better then than it works now. I could barely get the knife to fit in it. Perhaps due to wear and age. Anyway it is an interesting feature.
Also the bottle is attractive. A bit difficult to photograph as it is clear but I think the pattern is visible. The jar is about 7" tall.
Perhaps a steak knife would work better.
Sensible design.
I’ve never seen this feature before
it must be foreign
Pickle jar? Never seen this before, really neat, I use a tea spoon to fit in any small cavity under the lid, for those stubborn ones to let the air in and break the vacuum seal. Thanks for posting.
Nobody would be interested in the idea today. Today's requirement is that it use energy in the form of petroleum or electricity etc..
Thank you very much nutsabotas6. Would be handy.
Thank you very much Toyrebel.
Thank you very much Vinyl33rpm. Could be from England.
Thank you very much truthordare. I use a bottle opener to break the seal.
That is really original jar! it might have been a coffee jar, the brand "Judge Coffee" was the only thing i remember to have had a lid system like this one.
Thank you very much keramikos. A practical suggestion.
Very cool!! I can only imagine the frustration this would do away with today, when opening jars.
Thank you very much BB2. You are behind the times. It would have to be a phone ap where you say "google etc open the jar".
Thank you very much Lata. I did find a coffee jar but it didn't match the pattern.
Thank you very much Scott. Especially with wet hands.

Hey that was some genius thinking to figure that out! I would have never guessed that. The knife may not fit so well maybe because at the time they made it, most knives were basically a different size than now, you know what I mean! I'm sure it's quite worn as well though. Very cool.
Thank you very much shareurpassion. I used a 1950s knife. I wouldn't mind getting something older to go with my depression glass.
