I found, while googling images of old jewellery advertisements, those stunning pages!

The company advertisements found are from 1893 to 1908... it is said the Company was manufacturer and setter, specialised in unrivalised diamonds imitations and "orient pearls" as beautiful as the genuine.

You can see on pics 1, 2 and 3 the strong similarities between my pieces and those on the ads!

Last pic is the one of their new premises in 1897, situed 143 Regent Street in London.
Well worth to enlarge to read the description of the decor!!!

Halas, still not found any infos on the company itself, its mark, and why it seems to have disapeared after 1908....

Seeking for a complete paper catalogue to go further in the identification of my mysterious "etruscan urn" maker's mark :-D

    Any help welcome!!!

Pascale what a wonderful find, this ad definitely shows a connection with your beautiful pieces which are classic antiques! I love to see many of your brooches that are my favorites, all together on these pages - I esp love that gorgeous monkey & large winged bird, and as the ads state, they really look genuine
    2. jscott0363 jscott0363, 6 years ago
      What wonderful little pieces!!

These are gorgeous. Yours must be made by them, they look exact to me. Here is what I found:

      https://digitalcollections.nypl.org/items/510d47e1-24ec-a3d9-e040-e00a18064a99

I hope that helps you! I also hope it's not the one you already have seen! As for my turquoise bracelet, my first thought did not work. But the gears of my brain refuse to take no for an answer ;) I hope my next idea works. Will let you know.
    5. Elisabethan Elisabethan, 6 years ago
Wow, this is a very interesting lead Kyratango! Maybe one step closer to the answer we are eagerly waiting for.... Will keep my eyes open.
    6. kyratango kyratango, 6 years ago
Jenni, thank you! I love these little paste gems critters too :-), Their quality is about as fine as the precious ones!
Really hoping someone could have access to other ephemeras or infos about this company...

Scott, Mrstyndall thank you for your lovely comments!

Share, thanks, I think I explored ALL of these ads, painfully reading the very small writings...
Your bracelet is so striking, you need to succeed in your project! Keep on, I'm thrilled to see an update :-)

Elizabethan! Yep, I do think it is closely related...
But why such a high end company vanished without leaving a trace puzzles me!!!
I'm not a real searcher, and all my ideas went to a dead end for the moment; Exploring for now the commercial registered jewellers Internet sites for these years with no success :-/
    7. racer4four racer4four, 6 years ago
I am so happy and amazed Pascale. This seems a great find to identify your previously unknown mark. For me, the pendant starburst is the greatest persuader: such an unusual design,so similar. Clever girl!!
    8. Elisabethan Elisabethan, 6 years ago
I found a link to more pictures than those above. I have emailed you. Hope it's is interesting.
    9. kyratango kyratango, 6 years ago
Ahh, Karen, I so agree with you, THANK YOU!
The starburst is the most matching, but I found more that I can't post, because the pieces aren't mine... A particular brooch representing a paste set hare with a dangling turtle is an even more striking match!!!

Elizabethan, thanks for the link, I looked at it before, halas, they have only one image for the parisian company...

This is great Pascale, I was just thinking about all your lovely mystery maker pieces the other day!
I did a bit of a search this morning that was a real long shot BUT would you believe I found a reference to your Parisian Diamond Company in Australia!!

I will start a new post for you with the information.
    13. kyratango kyratango, 6 years ago
Phil, thank you! Did you have a glance at the enlarged last pic? The sculptures are quite in your alley :-)

Judy!!! How great it is you found something to help, THANK YOU!!!
I think they were retailers, but will have to explore the track ;-)

One of the ads mentions the company was established in 1890, the last ad I saw on the list was 1909.
An article from Monday, 16 March 1896 in The Scotsmen, p. 7 mentions a succesful and extensive burglary during Saturday night at their head branch, 86 New Bond Street. The entire stock of Oriental pearls and diamonds were stolen, burglars not caught; valued at 5 0r 6000 pounds.

Article in the St James Gazette, 16 April 1896 mentions the reopening of their head branch in 89 Bond Street.

From the ads, their adresses were at 85 New Bond Street, 143 Regent Street (later 248), 37,38,29 Burlington Arcade, W.
    18. kyratango kyratango, 6 years ago
Ooh Tigra! A big thank you for your search!
I think I'll subscribe to be able to read the whole articles...
I saw one of the newspapers anounced by mistake the fail and bankruptcy of the parisian diamond company and apologized about that, but can't see the year!
I saw too they produced enamel and paste insects... that is my new Graal ;-))
    19. TassieDevil TassieDevil, 6 years ago
Hi Tigra, welcome to the search:) it's fun isn't it lol!
    20. Tigra, 6 years ago
@kyratango I think, it was in 1893. Most of those pages are detailed ads, I thought they were quite well done. I propose writing an article using those ads, I think it would be awesome/interesting ;) Good luck in your hunting, I can't wait to see your findings :)
@TassieDevil Research is the fun part, I love it. I have a harder time writing something based on the research. :)

I think if you contact somebody from the family, I think they will be happy to talk about him, the company. Maybe his passing away is the reason the company did not continue.

      From the Times - 21 March 1896, p. 1
One hundred pounds reward for any information about the burglary from 14th to 15th night from Bond Street; caution for pawnbrokers, jewellers or others to accept the jwellery, apparentely of great value, in consequence of the mounts being of highclass workmanship and of gold, but set with the company's "orient" pearls and immitation gemstones.

Another article from 26 July 1905, p. 3 discusses a lady stealing a valuable necklace from Christie's, she tried to replace the mentioned necklace with one she bought from The Parisian Diamond Company.
    27. Tigra, 6 years ago
The Times, 16 March 1896, p. 9 - burglary - The Parisian Diamond Company, a firm dealing in immitation diamonds and pearls. "An outer door was opened by means of a skeleton key and an inner door by the drilling out of a panel. The place had recentely been restocked, and the burglars made a clean sweep, taking practically everything there, and got away. The manager stated that the loss amounted to about 3,000 pounds."

There is also an article from 18 October 1980, p. 7 Collecting. Following the Edwardian Style - mentions the so called dog collar "Thousands of paste dog collars must have been sold by London firms such as the Parisian Diamond Company and these may be picked up for 30-40 pounds."

Aww, thank you so much Gary!
I just sent Abe Books a question about their item, to be sure it is a book about the company (catalogue... I hope...) and not only a page of advertisement taken of a newspaper! (That price would be obcene!!!)

De Beers rule's the wold of dimonds I wonder if its a aka company name of De Beers ...J P morgan was involed with them to control all the dimonds in the world ..or maybe they bought them out .???

De Beers Diamond Jewellers’ retail network comprises 32 stores in 17 countries. This includes a growing business in greater China, an established presence in London and Paris, and a new flagship location in New York
    36. kyratango kyratango, 6 years ago
Hi Gary, thanks for your search! I already explored all images about them ;-)
For de Beers, these "diamonds" from Parisian Diamond Company were only simulant!
Laws then seem to be less strict than now about advertising imitations with the name of the real thing :-)))

hey kyra..well that infomation puts a whole new light on the subject ... smiling ...but I'm learning things I never new .... thats always cool .. still waiting to hear back on my searches ..will talk agian ...later

Hello to all. I haven't gotten through this entire thread yet, but Walter Leighton Sanderson (who at one time was a partner in the Parisian Diamond Company) was my 2nd great grandfather. I would be glad to share what little I know about him. I have always hoped that at some point in my life, I'd be able to find a piece of jewelry that was sold by him. It would be a wonderful piece of my family history. In the meantime I've settled for a one page advertisement, which I plan to frame and hang in my home.

I found this posting describing the maker's mark for Walter Leighton Sanderson (see post #40):

      https://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=30091#p74544

"The Parisian Diamond Co. - London - 1908
The business of Walter Leighton Sanderson.
Also noted at 248, Regent Street in 1892, and 22, Glasshouse Street in 1897. Converted into a limited liability company c.1913.
Walter Leighton Sanderson died in 1913, aged 56 years.
Walter Leighton Sanderson entered just the one mark at the London Assay Office on the 23rd September 1892, an oblong punch, WLS."
    40. kyratango kyratango, 6 years ago
      Ooohh, Zanyrainey! That's FANTASTIC!
I saw the 925-1000 page about your great great grand father when searching for the Parisian Diamond Company, halas, my famous mysterious "urn" mark is not mentioned... only the WLS in oblong punch.

Any chance you still have catalog from the firm?

It is only the design similarities and quality of the "stones" and setting which made me think my "mysterious maker" and your great great grand father's company may be related...

Very glad you found my post and thankful for all infos you may have :-D

      Hi
I have an original box ( white with gold lettering) receipt (signed and dated 1906) and the piece of jewellery, including a voucher to have the piece cleaned for free.

May be of interest for your research?
    42. kyratango kyratango, 6 years ago
      ABSOLUTELY!!! That is fantastic :-D

Can you create a post with the pics and give the link to it here?

Sorry don't know how to link it to here but have posted the photos. Just type in Parisian Diamond Company in 'search '. Hopefully you can then see the 2 photos
It has been in the family since 1906, now belongs to me.

I admit to veering between Urn and Out Of Control Squid when originally trying to identify the mark on my Parisian Diamond Co pieces. I have a few of them now and they are all very well made and super sparkly. Nice to learn the history behind them.
