1800's Zinc steamer. No labels, marking etc.. Very large. Hey Im4anythingOld, this is the one I mentioned when you asked about the Silver steamer. It was done about 2 yrs ago and is part of my collection. I had no idea it was zinc before restoration. Thanks!

Looks great as a whole, green is not my 1st choice over the natural zinc, but it still came out nice with a color. This is the same pattern as the metal on my trunk. I spoke last week to HMS trunks about this very style latch on this trunk, his best guess ....these were from the late 1870's to the mid 1880's. Great job!!

Also The term steamer is strictly used for the low profile more suitcase oriented trunks that would fit under the seat of a passenger. This trunk properly termed would be a barrel stave trunk with slats running from end to end verses the cross slat which runs from front to back.

Thanks Im4anythingOld. This Barrel Stave trunk :) was in really bad shape if I remember correctly. At the time I saw a green one on-line that looked cool so decided on green. Lately, I've come across a few Barrel Staves with similar latches. I'm curious, what would have been your first choice of color?

On a zinc trunk... for me I would stay natural zinc, but each to there own as the saying goes. I have another zinc trunk coming and looking at another and these two plus the one I have listed are original condition and untouched after manufacturing and with that being said, they were sold as is... in the natural state unlike tin trunks from what I have seen. So for me to stay in line with as close to original... I'll always go natural zinc whether it be plain or embossed. On a tin trunk one really has no recourse but to paint away..lol

Yeah, I agree. Now that I know, I will think twice before painting a zinc trunk.
      Thanks again.
