gew·gaw
??yo?o?ô/
noun
noun: geegaw
a showy thing, especially one that is useless or worthless.
Origin
Middle English: of unknown origin.
Maybe this is just supposed to be a pretty, useless thing, but I am not sure about that. It is 2.5" high and 5" in diameter, probably blown glass. It is hollow and not heavy enough to be a paperweight. It floated when I washed it in my sink, but then leaked mysteriously from someplace around the base, so there must be a pinhole opening somewhere that let water in, just enough water to be annoying and make it a PITA to dry, not enough to increase its weight. It sat in my local thrift shop for weeks, moving from shelf to shelf, the tag on the bottom becoming more and more tattered as folks peeled it off to see if it was marked. Under the the store tag there was a much smaller generic white tag with "9.5" written on it?! Has anyone seen one of these before? I am calling it art glass because it is a pretty, useless thing.
A lovely geegaw!
Thanks racer4four and thanks for the geegaw love!
