Came across this 1880's ? Leather 4 slat Barrel Top Trunk yesterday, measures 36" long x 20" deep x 28" tall. You can certainly tell a quality trunk when it comes to lifting it. It has 42 pieces die-cast trims plus the wheels and latches. Sessions hardware I would imagine, but they are slightly different in the pattern and shape than I am used to seeing for Sessions hardware. This one is a little different as well from most leather trunks I have seen, as it has the lid face being clad in metal and the base front bottom in metal which is normally leather. Also It has a completely opposite interior layout than all other trunks I own or any I have seen for that matter. Both original handles very sturdy. No maker label..( I was hoping). No maker on the lock either, just the patent date of 1879 and an eagle with a shield and branch logo as shown. Looks to be brass. Overall it was well cared for condition wise.
Love how you got around the 4 photo limit!
LOL Thanks TheGateKeeper one must try. I personally find four photos is not really enough to show a trunk and components, interior, locks, parts, labels, etc. When I view four photos I find I always wish to see more but can't. Thus for you guys and gals more shots to to truly view the interesting aspects and the trunk as a whole. I am sure you know what I mean. Also they are for my records of understanding what I have in image format verses having to physically find the trunk to look at if need be, so thought I might as well use them as I have them. Thanks for looking and the love!
Thanks to all thus far for looking and of coarse the loves...can't get enough love these days.

Also....If anyone has info on the lock maker I would love to hear it. I have one trunk envelope with the same image, so I am curious about that.

Hello, great trunk. Don't know if you received any info on the lock, but it was patented by John Haskell who was a trunk maker in Chicago. I've had a few of those locks and some of the Haskell trunks. But I doubt very much that he made the locks, he probably sold the patent to Eagle Lock Co since I believe they did use that eagle emblem on some of their locks. So if Eagle made the locks they probably sold them to many different trunk makers, not just Haskell. Very difficult to identify the maker of many trunks as you know. After by the 1890's that style lock was made by Eagle, Corbin, Yale & Towne, and a couple other American lock makers. Hope that helps. Marvin ThisOldTrunk.com
