    I only know that these were used for navigating ships and planes back then. The last pic is of Amelia Earhart with hers. It is often blamed for her tragic loss. Apparently, hers never worked right. Hopefully this one is an improvement.

      This is really interesting to me, my Dad was a radioman (code operator, they did away with that job) for the US Navy during the Korean War, a bit later than the Earhart era but he must have used similar equipment. Thanks for posting
