    About 3 years ago I excitedly found my first piece of Iwata Glass, and since then I have accumulated quite a bit more. Ahem.

    Moving on.... I bought this one for two main reasons;
    1. It is very similar to that first vase, so brings me full circle, and
    2. It has orange as the contrast colour, which is unusual for this period of Iwata. Usually he used yellow, blue, or pink on the white base.
    I love orange so this was an interesting and attractive acquisition for me.

    It has such a free and creative style, and really shows Iwata's difference, and why he had such a profound effect on Japanese glass.
    Made early 1950s. Height: 18cm

      It's certainly sensuous Jenni, like a flower unfurling. Thanks for your insight!

      I'm very lucky to get so many labels Alan, although there would be no doubt who made this just by its look.

      I am curious if the bottom is flat ground and polished? Nice vase in a very organic form.
    16. racer4four racer4four, 6 years ago
      Welzebub in fact it's not. The typical finish for these very hand formed vases is the pontil mark appears to have been flame finished and paddled maybe? There are no tool marks to be seen anywhere on the vases so I am not sure how they did that.
      The base is smooth and quite flat but shows no sign of buffing or polishing. It has a satin finish.

      Thank You... What I know of Japanese glass would fit in a thimble. Your collections is beautiful and you have some very gorgeous pieces.

      So we now know this is generic Iwata factory glass, not by Toshichi Iwata, right? Maybe a bit later, closer to 1960? I will need to look at the labels on the few pieces of I can date...
