This vase is 7" high. It has a couple of spots of colored glass in it, but not enough to call it End of Day glass. It was a $.49 thrift shop find from yesterday. From the color, I am thinking it is Chinese. The pontil removal was a disaster as it caused a couple of good sized chips on the bottom. Opinions on the origin of the piece welcome. Don't expect much help with the maker but open to being pleasantly surprised.

      Most likely Japanese Export.

I found an image of this vase in Kovel's Price Guide, but they don't include much information about it:

Fenton had a series of spatter vases, in this style, about the same size too, one was labeled Fenton, Made In Japan. I had two, which I gave away for a charity garage sale.

Let me try to be a little more definite - this is a "Made in Japan" vase dating from the 1960s made for export. Similar vases can be found with several different importer labels, most commonly Lefton. It is not Imperial or Fenton.

To expand on what Artfoot said, a general rule that can be followed is that if a piece of glass has a pontil mark such as this piece does, it was not produced by Fenton. There are a handful of exceptions to that, primarily being a very rare line of vases referred to as Off Hand. Off Hand was produced in very small numbers in the 1925, and again in more recent times.

Fenton uses a device in production referred to as a gadget, snap tool, or snap ring to hold hot glass and in almost every case, has avoided the use of punty rods. As far as I am aware, Off Hand production is the only exception to that.

WOW! Now I have a faulty memory and could not see or read what was written on a label. Of course I kept pictures of them.

If Kevin is interested I can provide him. It may have said Japan, not Made In Japan, but it was definitely Fenton and not very old.

Thanks for the comments truthordare, artfoot and welzebub! Lots of good information here. I did find several images of similar vases, some labeled Lefton and some not, so going to call it a Lefton China style Japanese spatter stretch vase.
