I recently came across a pair of vintage straight 29 inch blade swords. I can’t find any markings anywhere.
Can anyone tell me if this is an antique, ornamental, or a ceremonial sword. Also would anyone have an approximate date for these?
    Thank you

      Welcome ........
In my opinion they are ornamental for the following reasons. First there is no wear where there should be wear (like the handle) ....Secondly, in your 3rd picture you can see rough edges where the item was cast. Again, that would not be there and be smooth from wear. Thirdly, in my opinion -- if the were antique, wouldn't they use leather or rawhide on the handle for grip??? If a weapon?? I personally think they are just ornamental and made to look old. See what others say as that is just MY opinion. Thxs

Yes they look like ornamental swords. Generally swords don't hang out as a matched pair and would have scabbards. Plus what rose said.

I agree with Rose. Ornamental. There were many such items hung in castles and so the everydayman also hung these up in cheaper versions than the real thing. A nice pair, I love hanging up heraldic items, Great find.

Yes ornamental but that being said they can still be quite old and moderately valuable as decorative pieces.
