I saw this today 9/15/18 at the Flea Market, it has a familiar Potter's look to me, but I was not sure that I wanted to pay what the seller wanted, until I knew for sure who made this. I think that might be Austrian, I took the photographs of him at the Flea Market, so what you see is what you get! :^D Any help with figuring out who made this Donkey with Smiling Rider, is appreciated!
Thanks to Karen(racer4four), with conformation by Pete(ho2cultcha), I'm able to mark this Danish, Michael Andersen. Shield with 3 herring stamp, on this cute figurine with a smiling man riding a donkey. It was designed by Marianne Starck who was art director at the factory from 1955 until it closed in 1993, Solved ! ! !
Thank you for looking, all comments are welcome! :^)
Thank you for taking a look Vynil, and for the love too! :^)
Very cute piece Bill, the rider reminds me of the cartoon character Gabby from the 30s animated movie Gullivers Travels, a family favorite
Thanks for your comment Jenni, you're right he does, if I remember correctly! :^D
Thank you for taking a look, and for the love you gave Jenni, aura, and Kevin, I sure hope we can figure out what this is, because I really like it! :^)
I checked it out Jenni, and he does look a little like Gabby, minus his hat. Gabby was created by The Max Fleischer Studio, that also made Spunky the Donkey, so maybe who ever made this pottery figurine, got the idea from these cartoon characters. Well maybe! :^D
Bill this is Danish, Michael Andersen. Shield with 3 herring stamp.
It's an unusual subject for the company I think; donkeys don't seem very Danish lol.
