Another dog from my mom's collection.
The bookend measures ~6 inches high x 5 inches wide.
It weighs 3 lbs, which is very heavy for its size!
A quick density calculation, using the weight and water displacement suggests it might be lead.
This is not cast iron. It is not magnetic. The metal is silvery and soft. (You can scratch it with your finger nail.)
The Collectors Encyclopedia of Bookends" by Kuritsky and DeCosta p. 101, plate 529 lists this item as "Standing Tall", Circa 1925. (I can send a copy of the page upon request, but I cannot upload due to copyright issues.) HOWEVER, the books lists that the item is iron. While bookend I have appears to be identical to the one in the book, it is not iron.
I finally conducted a lead test (3M lead check) and confirmed it is lead.
If anyone has additional information and is willing to share, please contact me.
This item is a bit of a mystery.
Another nice one! Thanks for sharing your Mom's collection with us all.
