    This is a jug made of cork used to carry dynamite powder in to the coal mines. It had to be made of a material that would not cause friction if rubbed against the wall and cause a possible explosion.

      If right on the purpose, I would think black powder. Dynamite is nitro glycerin & too sticky to be made in powder form.
