      I have many trunks with a number on the handle like this. The significance of this number from what I have learned is pretty much zero. Could be a customer identification mark from voyage, train etc...verse nailing a name and address label to the persons trunk for shipping and I am sure there are a multitude of other "could be reasons" but I doubt you will be successful from focusing on these as a gateway to all understanding...lol Just love your trunk for who it is!

      Actually the numbers Do mean something. Usually there are 3 or 4 numbers. One set will be the size of the trunk. 28, 30, 32, 34, 36, etc. The other number, or set of numbers, will be the part number used by the trunk parts manufacturer that made the handles.
