Around 1976 a woman in her 80's, gave me this basket. She owned many Indian items/relics and showed them by appt only in her home. She was going to find her written info and mail to me but the next day she was murdered and all the remaining items were stolen. As such, I know nothing about it The handles were chewed off and up by a group of hungry puppies. I realize the damage but I'd still like to know it's origin, the design or any info that can be provided. Basket is approx 20" long by 12" wide, baby would fit great! Thank you. Lora

It isn't Native American. This is a Mexican basket, from the Toluca Valley region of central Mexico. In its present condition, it really has only sentimental value.
