This lovely little sculpture is by Australian artist Leopoldine Mimovich. I have been trying to find one of her works for sometime now, and this beauty appeared at the right time and price, only recently.
Leopoldine Mimovich was born in Austria in 1920 and trained in sculpture in Vienna and later at the School of Wood Sculpture in Hallstatt from 1943 to 1949. In 1949 she and her husband migrated to Australia, and after difficulties finding work in her field she finally was able to work as a sculptor here from the mid 1950s. Her works range from smaller scale sculptures like this one, to larger works, many of which are influenced by her Catholic faith. Her work has been collected world wide.
My tranquil little girl stands around 15cm, is bronze, and has a very faint signature to the base L.MIMOVICH.
She is part of a larger group of sculptures, all approximately the same size, and all of children. I have only ever seen one photo of the whole group, and have never seen a group for sale.

She's beautiful, such a serene pose, looking downward as if lost in thought. The sculptor was very talented, thanks for the background info
What a sweet child! Very well sculpted
