It is plainly marked Kinley Microscopic Caliper on the top lid. It is a metal case. Has a very powerful bulb that illuminates what I will call something like a negative film onto the built in screen. The wiring is old but still works. First photo shows unit as is. Second photo shows how it opens. Third photo shows internal parts. Fourth photo shows the built in screen. I have been told that it is used in the oil field to inspect drill pipe that is below ground. For the life of me I don't understand how. It may work with something like a camera that goes down hole to take a picture and then the film is then viewed with this unit.
My efforts online have yielded nothing that helps. The Kinley Calipers that are shown are not shaped like this unit nor do any of them appear to work with it.
I have had this thing for about twenty years. At first I was only interested in it for the metal box. But when I opened it I thought that it would be best to discover what it is and how it works. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
It makes sense what you speculated about a camera being used. I guess a negative could be used immediately to view the pipe on the spot without developing maybe.
