A civil war letter from a captive soldier to his family. The son of a southern commanding officer writes to his family concerning his state of health, condition and safety. Found this in a pile of papers at the Goodwill Store years ago. It’s a true story of the civil war.

I wish we had the rest of the hand-written part to see why they transcribed the original.

They transcribed the original because certain things could not be said concerning the war. So someone retyped it, confirmed it, and then send it. It’s the closes thing to the original letter.

I collect Civil War items-- some great details are often found in letters.

Do you have the original war era letter?
