Copy-rights and patents were put on things up to a few decades after they were copy-righted or patented.
I think the woman relaxing with her feet on a foot stool while her husband is preparing food- looks like he's peeling a potato while wearing an apron- is being foolish, according to the saying.
In the day of this card, early 1900s, it was the woman's place to do the cooking, not the man's. It's saying she's being foolish because she will soon lose her husband because she's lazy and not taking care of her duties.
