    We have had this odd petrified looking Rock for over 40 years, so many people say it looks like a wasp nest or a sponge just would like to get your opinion on one of our favorite rocks.

      Just my non-professional opinion: I think this is part of an old piece of a statue from which the outermost surface has degraded and crumbled away. The mesh part is the inner structure with small stone bits and some type mortar as filler.
      After the form was made of wire, filler material and maybe rebar, the final coating of a smooth plaster or mortar of some kind would have been applied giving the statue it's detail and beauty.
      One of the photos items may have been a foot and the other a hand. Look at your items with that in mind and see if it makes sense.
