These Super Heavy / thick split hide mittens and short chaps were treasures that I found in an old suitcase at a local estate sale in Oregon. I was told that the grandfather used them on the green line. OF course, I have no clue what a green line is, and was told that it was where loggers used chains to pull logs? I have searched around the internet and can find nothing. The seams on the little apron (more like short cowboy chaps) and mittens are all secured with metal clamps much like wide staples. Does anybody have any insight?

There are a bunch of railroad-related Green Lines. He may have worked in the shop, as a blacksmith, or perhaps a locomotive fireman.
