I bought this Schlitz World neon sign about 16 years ago and was told it was vintage 1962. I cannot confirm the year but maybe someone out there can. The sign is in very good condition and works perfect. All the neon tubes work and are very bright and full of color. The flimsy plastic world has a couple small cracks around the outer edge, but it is all there. The sign was made in Hong Kong and distributed by the Universal Electric Sign Co. The transformer is thermally protected and has a pull chain style on/off switch. Unlike neon signs made today, this sign is heavy and well made. The sign is all original except for the old heavy black power cord it came with. I replaced the cord with a newer white power cord to blend against my wall so it was not as noticeable when I hung the sign. And that's about it.
If anyone can confirm the year for me and give me an idea what this sign might be worth today, please do. Thanks!
Someone emailed me the following comment,
I love this sign. Is it for sale? If not, can you direct me to a site that has similar schlitz neon wall signs? Thanks for any help.
As of now this sign is not for sale because I would not know what to ask for it. When and if I find out what it is worth I may consider selling it. I have searched all over the internet for another sign like this one but have had absolutlely no luck at all. From what I have found so far, this is a one of a kind sign and no other like it exists, which should bring up the value quite a bit. But thanks for asking.
I have the same sign. I got mine in the early 1970s. Mines in excellent condition. I think it was made in the 70s but am not sure. From what i heard they are rare but am not sure how much they would sell for. Just letting you know that theirs more than one.
I have the same sign
The plaque on the the back of the sign says 1977
I also have this neon sign, it says on the back 1977. it was made by everbright electric signs inc hong kong. I am also curious how much this sign is worth its in excellent condition.
As everybody already mentioned, it's not a one off sign. Schlitz made a lot of them but they are getting harder and harder to find. Many of them don't survive well from all the heat and being on all the time. It makes the plastic globe brittle. I had one if these as well in my collection in the past and when I sold it I hit around $150-$175 if I recall.
I have one that is new in the box, never removed.
There is a sign receipt in the box dated 3/76.
Someone has one on Ebay now, asking 550.00. used
