I have searched high and low for information on this wonderful pair of Pottery Gnomes and I have been unable to find similar ones. They are finely detailed with smiling white teeth showing and are both marked with incised numbers. The one shown has the number 386 with some writing that I can't make out. The other is numbered 383. They measure 10" and 8 1/2" and approximately 4" across at the widest. They look quite old and friendly. Anyone know anything about them?

They look German - where most gnomes were made from the late 1800s thru to today.

Pretty impressive sizable and detailed figurines, Bob. Did you try any kind of cleaning? I wonder how much age old discoloration there is, especially if they came from a house with smokers. Too bad there are no marks, must mean they were not meant for export, or they had labels. Thanks for posting. :-)

Thanks ho2cultcha....I thought Germany too; Black Forest type of ware. Thank you for your input. Thank you truthordare ....I didn’t clean it...the brown colour is the decoration. The figurines are heavy and not hollow. The markings are numbers.
Thank you vinyl33rpm, Newfld, blunderbuss2, Fort Apache, Anik and kivatinitz for the loves. RER
