Thanks so much for your comment, Newfld. Yes, I think it is abalone. I believe that it was cut in a different way to show the lines. If the light hits the "stone"at a certain angle, the whole thing sparkles beautifully:)

Hi there! This is so unique! You know, I just found out that when the bezel is not serrated (or sawtooth as I've always called it) that the piece such as this may have been made before the 30's! That doesn't even sound or look right for this piece BUT, it is heavy gauge silver. I need to check that again because I do remember them talking about hand sawn and machine cut bezels. This to me is one of those things that states 'the more I learn, the less I know'!!! Regardless, this is an amazing piece and it does look like abalone to me too.
