A sample from the past in a more romantic era. An antique Victorian mourning locket circa 1850-70 in satin finish carved vulcanite. The hinged lid has a carved & detailed figural bird on flowery branch, opening to reveal an allover incised-carved interior, apertures for 2 pictures with a loose ring loop at top, 1.25" oval locket, 1.75" overall. We all grieve in some way the passing of others but the means of demonstrating our pain has changed over the years.
Mourning jewelry is fascinating. Too bad that tradition "died out".
Would you please post more pictures so we can see the inside?
