Truth be told I bought at the thrift store a couple months ago because I wanted the frame for a different picture. After I got it home and looked it I thought I would leave the current photo in the frame until I found out more about this P.S. Maxwell. After months, and hundreds (no joke) searching for P.S. Maxwell I've found one website the sells high quality museum repros and that offers P.S. Maxwell prints similar to the one in the photo I have. Then on OfferUp in New Jersey I found someone selling a large print attributed to P.S. Maxwell. I messaged the seller and the only info they could tell me was the name of photographer, size and that it was a print not an original.
Details about mine. The signature on the inside and is different than the signature on the matte. Also the #/# is different. Inside it looks to be a photo printed on linen (or other high quality, thick "art" paper.) The black "border" is painted, not printed or reproduced.
What the heck is a P.S. Maxwell?
    Thanks!

      P. S. Maxwell is an artist that created a unique style of art called stencil casting. His constant increase in creativity help him produce many beautiful piece. I did a 1 1/2 hour search on the artist and your print. Don’t quote me on this, but I believe that all his reprints are made as real as his originals. The numbers to the left probably represent the series number plus the number of prints made.. So yours might be the third produced out of thirty which is not bad considering this print. This is clearly not his best work, but it is a piece of history belonging to the artist. Every collector interested in the artist’s work might no have an original. Collectors who don’t have originals might settle for a reprint. Value for an item that hasn’t been sold recently is hard to define. Only he who knows, knows the value and that’s not me. It’s good to ask so others may learn more about an item plus maybe others can add so the community can learn more about it. Even though it’s a reprint I would still inquire concerning the value just incase. You never know! Let’s us know if you find more info

I wish I could even for a moment believe I was so lucky to have a Paul Maxwell, even a Maxwell that is not his best work is still better than many contemporary artists could ever dream of producing. I'm not sure how Paul Maxwell translates into P.S. Maxwell, if anyone can point me to where Paul Maxwell used the signature P.S. Maxwell I would appreciate it. Before moving towards complete abstraction Maxwell occasionally dabbled with painted abstract landscapes but I wasn't able to find any Paul Maxwell photography that is similar to my P.S. Maxwell. (There is ONE site ArtXp that reproduces P.S. Maxwell photographs.) Any help towards the direction that led you to conclude this could be Paul Maxwell would be very helpful. Thank you.

This is so funny. I was searching for "P.S. Maxwell" to see if my uncle's photography was still being sold. His name is Patrick Scott Maxwell, my father's younger brother. He no longer does photography, but he has a lot of amazing pieces. He was having his originals reproduced and they were available through a magazine years ago. They are landscapes, mostly in black and white or sepia. My dad and I have seven of his photos between the two of us, one of which is about 20"×61".
The airport in Louisville, Kentucky, commissioned one of his photographs to go along one of their huge walls years ago, too!
That picture you posted is definitely from my Uncle Pat. He lives in Kentucky and is from Southern California originally. He signs all his framed/matted photos P.S. Maxwell. So, I hope this information brings you some peace!

THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! The P.S. Maxwell was one of my unsolved mystery items until I read your post. Is there any place online where I can learn more about the photos and about your Uncle? I've been so enthralled with the mystery of who is P.S. Maxwell for so long now that I don't think I'd want to part with my photo but I wouldn't mind seeing the other photos he took! Thank you again.
