Does anyone know if this is Navajo? I was told it was teec nos pos germantown. It has a different yarn color going up each side
It's Navajo, but not Teec Nos Pos. That style originated in the area around the trading post of Teec Nos Pos, in northeastern Arizona, on the Navajo reservation, but it is characterized by intricate patterns, and multiple bands of border on all four sides. It's said to be the most complex style of Navajo weaving.
Germantown refers to the colorful yarn commercially spun and dyed in factories in Germantown, Pennsylvania, when aniline dyes first became available. It was an attempt to replace the hand spun and vegetal-dyed wool traditionally used. The bright rugs woven during the 1880s 1890s became known as "Germantowns."
So I don't see any connection with either Teec Nos Pos, or Germantown, here.
