I've seen some VW's posted lately and I must have got bitten by the bug to get me a few. I never owned a Beetle, but I've ridden in many and in fact rode in one to go to Gulf Shores for my HS graduation pilgrimage. I was riding in this same car later on, when the battery fell through the floorboard under the backseat! Evidently the Bugs were prone to have the battery acid eat up the floorboards. It kept on trucking but made a serious scraping noise. We pulled over, raised the battery back up, moved it over to some remaining floor board, shimmed it up, popped another cold one and proceeded on.
The little one is a Hubley/Gabriel #1480. It's after the Gabriel acquisition so it's post '65. These came with a hippyish flower on both doors. They're missing but it's easy to find flower decal/stickers and I'll decide what to do when I restore it. I might really flower power it up with a real hippy color.
I thought the big one was one of those home decor items you get at Michaels or Hobby Lobby. But I'm not sure, it was made of thicker metal than those items usually are and has decent detail, like trim etc. There's no markings on it, no Made in China, nothing at all.
I think I got a good deal on both of them, so I don't care where it came from. I like the kiddie toy look.

    Thanks again,
    Toyrebel

My dad had a stinky noisy little VW bug. Always thought it was a fun little car. Used to see them burning on the freeway.

Thanks all. They all seemed to evolve to stinkier and noisier, Ftapache. The neighbors across the street when I was real young had one, I think it was the first I ever saw. Their siamese cat used to sleep on the roof of it. One time the neighbor and his buddy ran and jumped in the car with their Shriner Fez's on, I guess they were late for a meeting. They took off with Tosh the cat on the roof, he was just beginning to stir as they went down the street. About five minutes later the bug came speeding back. When he got to the front of his house, he screeched to a stop and flings Tosh out the window into the front yard! I tried to tell my parents about it but I couldn't stop laughing.
