Late one night my friend called to say she needed help setting up for a yard sale she was having at her Mom's house the next day. When I pulled up she had this lamp hanging sideways off the rain gutter, pineapples glass globes resting precariously on the rungs of a metal ladder. It was her "work light." The utilitarian, "I don't care if it break, it ain't worth nothing, my Mom's had it hanging in her laundry room forever" light by which she was pricing, over-pricing, Avon Decanters, miniatures, China, reproduction Coca-Cola trays and liquor promotional decanters. These were in her mind, valuable collectibles. I was called there to look up items on my phone to find their value. I was called out of fear that she was pricing items too low. I looked up the first couple items, only to inform her that she'd be lucky to get $3, not the $20-$50 she expected. After the this happened repeatedly she exclaimed, "Why the %^&* am I even having this yard sale?!" Not having an answer I asked...."How much for that lamp? All I have is $20 on me...." She replied, "Fine. At least I made $20. You're probably going to turn around and sell it for like a $100 aren't you?"
She was amazed that I had no plans to sell it and was even more amazed when a week later it was hanging in my living room.
Now times are a little tough so I had to list it for sale. When I was looking at what to price it at I was shocked that I couldn't find another one. Individual pineapple pendants that are identical to mine are rare but I found a couple. An entire 5 pineapple chandelier?! Impossible!
Am I just imagining these things are rare? Or am I not Googling the correct terms to find them? Or are they something even more special and better than I ever imagined? Anyone? Anyone? I always thought these lamps were standard issue to every 1960-1970 household, was I wrong?
I LOVE the lamp (s)!
I bought a cylinder shaped faceted clear glass swag light not long ago and it was listed as "Hollywood Regency" style. I'd never heard of that.
Try that style- maybe yours will show up!
Very pretty and unusual hanging pineapple light, as a lover of Hawaiiana this totally appeals to me - I would keep this, it's rare
