n: I bought this charm in a antique shop in South Africa.
At first it seemed that it could be from world war 2 but the date doesn't line up

There are 3 stamps on the back, from what I could make out they are as follows
    the date 1916
    XVI.O.D
ans possibility a serial number ADN4563908 (It could be wrong but that is what I could see.

The charm is about 1 inch square made of silver and pretty heavy for its size.

    I would appreciate any help

    Thank you.

could the number be a code for a security box? this could be a homemade piece. maybe owned by a person of German and French heritage born in 1916 and made in the 1930s? The fleur-de-lys and swastika is a very strange combination.

It is a strange combo. The Nazi Swastika was at a 45° degree angle, like an "X". The Buddhist, Hopi, etc. Swastika, that predates the Nazi version by centuries(Buddhist's 8th century), had Swasticas that were 90° like a "+". This seems to be a 90° version, a French Buddhist? The 90° was a symbol of good luck in the early 20th century, the Nazi's corrupted an otherwise benign good will symbol. The Finns also used the Swastika as symbol before the Nazis hijacked it. Possibly Finnish or just a good luck charm. The Nazis didn't use it before 1925.
