This is my big purchase from this month's Rose Bowl flea market. By big I mean large and by large I mean over 6 feet tall. Luckily it is modular or I wouldn't be able to fit it in my car. As it was it took the entire back of my car with the rear seats folded down with my Marx service station wedged in on top of the book case pieces. My fold up shopping cart was in the passenger seat. but it did fit.
An interesting point about this set is that it from two different manufacturers. The sections with a walnut finish are from Hale Mfg. Co in Herkimer, New York. The oak finish parts which is the majority are Globe Wernicke Company in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Globe Wernicke patented the elastic or modular bookcase. This one is the model 813 and same as the Hale version and all are happily fit together. According to Wikipedia the Globe Wernicke are worth a lot ie $900. I take that with about a pound or two of salt. They went out of business in the 1960s and Hale is still around so I would think this is pre 1960. It has no machine head screws so possibly earlier.
My plan is to full it with GI Joes nd other such fun stuff. I have 5 shelves plus the top for 6 levels of exciting display action.

A perfect display for your toys! Congrats on your first barrister. Once you have one, you'll want more. I'm a proud owner of 3. It all started with the Globe one, and it's still sitting in the garage waiting for restoration. After that one, i got 2 more in much better ready-to use condition, but i don't believe they are Globe's. One of them is pictured in one of my listings with an ink bottle. They are so versatile and so great for displaying collections, as long as the items are a certain height =)

Thank you very much AnnaB. I am quite happy with mine. I have several other display cases, some with adjustable shelves. But this is tallest. If I get a few more some other furniture can go bye bye.
