This box is in the attic of my house. I didn't realize that it was in use until the other day. When the kids blew a fuse and it wasn't in the basement. Finally found this box had the blown fuse. Its extremely big and beautiful! Some day we may update things. But not this year. Updated my carriage house. Next is the main house! House built in 1849. 6700 square feet.

That's a GORGEOUS antique service panel!! (dangerous as all h*ll, but beautiful anyway?!!) Also very cool how it retains its 'circuit diagram' including folks' names and even where they had their floor lamps and radio -- and a (central?) vacuum cleaner in the basement?? That must have been a (-n expensive) novelty back then...?!!

One would have to guess this panel was installed when your home was first electrified, very early 1900's. :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Anything obscure, I still have an old canister vacuum in the basement! I will have to get a few pictures to post. I still have the switch and hose hole in the base boards. And it will turn on and hum. But I'm sure its many years clogged!

Watchsearcher, the attic is very lovely. It has 6 windows as well as two closets one huge walk in cedar closet. And the back stairs that led to the maids quarters.

I wouldn't replace it for a minute nor would I consider it dangerous. You have a steel service box mounted on a fireproof brick wall. All lines feeding it and load lines are in fireproof conduit. You have another service box in the basement so this 100 AMP service is only used for a portion of the house. Being in the attic I would suspect it feeds the upper level of the house. Something as simple as an old cartridge fuse could have caused the problem. I don't see it as being unsafe, I would sleep well.

Like fhrjr2 said there really no t a problem unless u blow the fuse and take a piece of copper pipe and flatten the ends and pop it in place of the fuse, till the store opens ...lol then you might need help ...smiling the fuse on the left you can take out and apart and replace the filament inside.. the one on the right is a throwaway... always keep a spare ,and the right size fuse and life will be good..nice place...
