Need help identifying the type of handle this is called and what the best guess is on the handle parts. An antique person suggested the mid-part of the handle was bone but I'm thinking it might be Bakelite. The rest of the handle I believe is wood with metal (possibly aluminum) rings. I've had it for 25+ years and was handed down to me.

Can't tell exactly how old this may be though. I believe it's from India or South America.

Looks like antelope or buffalo horn. The style and design I would guess it came from somewhere in Africa

After blowing up the pictures I feel sure the black wood in the handle is Gabon Ebony from Africa. Where the knife was made I have no idea but the ebony is from Africa. I have some in my shop and a vase I turned from it next to me. That wood will out live you and many others if cared for.

I'm with flashlarue. The handle is buffalo horn with brass and aluminum spacers. Based on the decoration on the sheath I'd have to guess African.
