Just Overhauled, this extremely rare table lamp featuring the Travel and Transport Building as its base, a glass globe with a Boeing 247 airliner (cast aluminum) attached to the top sitting on a lamp swivel. Original assembly was created by United Airlines staff and sat in the United Airlines offices in Chicago. They chose components that gave the impression of an airport beacon with the airplane flying over. United Airlines was a major sponsor of the 1933 World's Fair and even had one of their brand new B-247 airliners inside the building as a walk-through display. The lamp was developed to mimic the brochure (2nd photo) that United had printed by the millions for the Fair. The original electrical components were sketchy at best and have been professionally replaced with a modern LED system which should mean reliable light for over 20 years before the bulbs need to be replaced. Great bit of Art Deco Mood Lighting!!
Gorgeous lamp, so well preserved, and the deco base showing the Chicago buildings is really beautiful
Outstanding item! Thanks for sharing it.
