This plaque came of an old boiler from a building being demolished in Somerville years ago.
Hodge Boiler Works was founded by Ebenezer and James Hodge in 1865 right around the time when the shipping
industry began to convert from clipper ships to steam ships. The Hodge Boiler Works produced
steam engines for the old clipper ships and for the new steam ships, including the engine used
to power Humphrey's famous boat in the film "African Queen" ( I remember him kicking the Hell out of it.)
The Boiler Works was in biz til early 1900's
They are building Condo's on the site now!!!
