Civil War era pill or snuff Black lacquered enamel Box

Picked this up at an Estate sale Months ago. When I opened it. It have very fine Cotton laid in the bottom. I’m thinking it was for Pills.
It is hinged at the back, counted corners and is about 1.5 inches across. I love the fine detailed painting on top.
